Murex pecten Lightfoot

The Venus Comb Murex is a stunning shell. It has several slender spines along its entire length. These protuberances are thin and point upward at the shoulder and are perpendicular at the siphonal canal. The entire shell is ivory white. The spines provide protection from marauding fish, but hinder the creature's movement.

This shell is found in sand offshore.
