Polynesian Tiki God of Eternal Hope
Kanaloa, endowed by worshippers with human traits, was looked upon as a tangible, spiritual symbol. The original Polynesian Poseidon, Kanaloa was one of the four major gods of ancient Hawaii. He was also claimed by some to be the “fallen angel” god who reigned over the region of departed spirits. Frequently, Kanaloa was described as drinker of “awa” (a beverage made of pepper plant root) with a passion for “bananas and sugar cane.” This god, believed given to human strength and weaknesses, thus gave fortitude to his followers.
