Muricanthus (Hexaplex) nigritus Philippi

The Black Murex is a thick shell with a round, expansive body whorl. The spire is fairly short and there are many rows of spines on the shell's surface. The shell is white and has brown and black coils that color the spines black. The aperture's color is ivory white.
