BIVALVE SEASHELLS
AFRICAN TURBAN / AFRICAN TURBO
The South African Turban is a large and heavy shell. Its spire is rather small and has few whorls while the body's whorl is large and an expansive aperture. In its natural state, this stunning shell has a red periostracum cover, but it has been polished to reveal the mother-of-pearl layer and only traces of the cover remain.
This shell lives among offshore rocks.
